Healthcare Project Manager

The Healthcare Project Manager is accountable for the success of all aspects of healthcare electrical construction projects, from bidding and contract award through completion.  Responsibilities include outlining and delegating tasks, creating timelines, estimating and adhering to costs, mitigating risks, and nurturing positive client relationships.  The PM collaborates with all other departments within the organization, including purchasing, accounting, engineering, and safety as well as field supervision, general contractors, construction managers and inspectors.

This opportunity is based out of our Oak Brook office overseeing Chicagoland locations or on-site in Downtown Chicago.

What you will do: 

Project and Account Management: manage overall schedule and milestones; financial, labor and change order tracking; materials purchasing and deliveries; forecast jobs’ materials and labor; billing

Business Development and Customer Relations: maintain customer relationships; manage large accounts; propagate new business annually

Estimating:  determine materials take-off; review project scope and final bid; finalize summary sheet

Site Management:  visit job sites; conduct job meetings, build trust with field staff and collaborate with site superintendents; coordinate subcontractors

Team Leadership:  provide mentorship to less senior PMs; manage expectations of contributing office personnel; assume responsibility for project financials and outcomes

What you’ll need for success:

  • Bachelors degree, preferably in Construction Management, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field or progressively increasing responsibilities in field electrical construction capacities.
  • Minimum 3 -7+ years’ experience in project management, preferably in healthcare construction or a closely related field.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in project management of large complex electrical construction jobs exceeding $5m (healthcare construction experience preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience estimating construction jobs and forecasting/projecting materials and labor throughout the projects.
  • Proven success satisfying construction project KPIs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Opportunities exist to be based out of our Oak Brook office overseeing Chicagoland constructions locations or on-site at remote hyper-scale data center construction sites throughout the Midwest.

What you will do:

VDC Modeler II

The VDC Modeler II assists the Field Design Lead and Electrical Systems Designer by following BIM Manager-established standards and workflows for electrical commercial construction projects. The VDC Modeler II will design electrical layouts, create and place annotations, manage sheets and revisions, plotting, and export views and sheets.

What you’ll do:

  • Layout of Electrical Systems
    • Create electrical room layouts
    • Develop homerun schedules and layouts
    • Review single line / riser drawings
    • Design large conduits & all raceways for power and low voltage systems
    • Create families and project content to be used in models by VDC modelers
  • Create shop drawings
    • Review and set up detailed shop drawings for prefabrication and field installation.
    • Create drafting views and detailed drawings.
    • Maintain project drawings and details through addendums, bulletins, and updates.
    • Produce and manage record drawings.
  • Model Designs
    • Review equipment submittals for modeling and manage project templates, blocks, details, and plotting standards.
    • Perform daily model management, including administration and maintenance.
    • Model designs in AutoCAD or Revit according to job specifications.
    • Update models with coordination changes and reflect as-built conditions for record-keeping.
  • Communicate with field and other trades for BIM process
    • Participate in coordination meetings and document changes and action items.
    • Communicate with team members outside of meetings as needed.
  • Technical Software Knowledge
    • Develop relationships with BIM/VDC software vendors.
    • Create training guides for software used by field and office teams.
    • Provide training on VDC software for field and office personnel.

What you’ll need for success:

  • Associate’s degree in engineering or electrical design.
  • 3-5+ years of experience in commercial electrical construction and 3-5 years designing electrical systems with AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Ability to independently design electrical room layouts and understand project schedules, electrical risers, and system layouts.
  • General construction knowledge, capability to read manufacturer’s shop drawings, and equipment cut sheets.
  • Willingness to travel 15% to local job sites.

Associate Project Manager

The associate project manager works closely with an experienced project manager, providing assistance and support in various tasks and project management functions within electrical construction projects. They actively assist the project manager in developing and implementing project  initiatives, with values up to $100m +.  The primary objective is to develop the skills to eventually work independently as a project manager.

What you’ll do:

Project Pursuits: Contribute to project pursuits by learning to estimate, review quotes, identify value engineering opportunities, and finalize estimate summaries for proposal generation.

Work in Progress Management: Facilitate effective project management by managing documentation (RFIs, constraints, purchase order logs, shop drawings, change orders, field testing), collaborating with stakeholders (internal departments, general contractors and trades), assisting with the development of change orders, monitoring the project schedule and logs, managing task finances (including forecasting work progress), and aiding in logistics (procurement of equipment, materials).

Business Development: Establish new contacts as well as strengthen connections with our current clients.  Grow a directory of business through regular contact with customers.

What you’ll need for success:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Construction Management, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or related
  • 0-2 years of experience in Construction Management or related field; Experience working in electrical construction a plus
  • Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.); knowledge of Microsoft Project a plus.
  • Familiarity with software like Bluebeam, Procore, Plangrid, Accubid, and Primavera P6 or other scheduling software a plus
  • Excellent team collaboration and customer service skills
  • Analytical, judgment, and problem-solving skills
  • Attentive to detail and accuracy
  • Solid prioritization and organizational abilities with the ability to satisfy concurrent deadlines
  • Self-motivation and initiative
  • Availability to regularly travel to sites within the Midwest required

Electrical Estimator

An electrical estimator reviews drawings and specifications and accurately determines labor costs for electrical construction jobs. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential for drafting detailed proposal letters, effectively communicating decisions, and completing a comprehensive estimate. This position includes budgeting and cost estimating, with the ability to handle multiple bids at once and adapt to project size.

What you will do: 

Data Acquisition and Organization: Download project documents, organize the estimate file, set up Accubid and Live Count, and identify gaps that require attention.

Support Project Manager in Work in Progress Management: Facilitate effective project management by managing documentation, assisting with the development of change orders, fostering communication with field teams and clients, and managing task finances, including forecasting work progress and monitoring important project logs.

Estimate Development and Review: Produce accurate takeoff and estimate entry, quote/subcontract review, estimate summarization, and proposal letter composition. Review scope with customers and estimate “comeback” items.

Scope Definition and Clarification: Review project documents, specifications and bid forms.  Proactively prepare and submit RFIs as needed to define the scope of work.

Acquiring Quotes and Subcontracts: Organize bid packages, deliver them to the purchasing department, and respond to vendor questions when necessary.

What you’ll need for success:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Construction Management, or Engineering required.
  • 5-8 years of electrical construction industry experience required.
  • Electrician license (preferred)
  • Ability to ascertain necessary time and materials thoroughly based on CAD drawings and job specifications.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Experience with Accubid preferred or similar software.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and thoroughness.
  • Strong focus on providing exceptional customer service.
